leadership in repealing Tennessee’s "infamous" evolution law of Scopes Trial fame.....
Clarence Darrow vs. William Jennings Bryan. The case was made into the movie  
"Inherit the Wind" with Spencer Tracy.

Mr. Smith was the Tennessee Legislator who sponsored the repeal and handled the
debates on the floor of the House of Representatives.  
He achieved global attention as he guided this landmark legislation to passage.
